Description: Learn how Sugar Maple trees produce sap and why it is collected for syrup only during this brief season. Watch us collect the sap and cook it down. Students taste maple sap in three stages of production. The basic program is one hour in length with half taking place outside. Description: Through the use of hands-on projects, we\'ll explore the concepts of over-packaging and reusing packaging materials (a notion very familiar with teachers). It\'s a creative way for school-age children to learn about the reuse leg of the reduce-reuse-recycle triangle. We ask that each class supply its own glue, scissors, and crayons or markers. Description: Alphonso Wesson, who has directed MTV\'s \"The Real World\" and \"Making the Band\", helped us to produce a video, Don\'t Trash the \'Nati, which features the thoughts and feelings of Cincinnati young people. Their comments center on their own sense of personal pride, and how it keeps them from trashing their neighborhood. After the video, we\'ll investigate your students\' thoughts and feelings about litter, its effects on the neighborhood and community pride, and actions they can take to deal with it. (30-45 minutes)

Description: Your students will need their calculators for this program as well, as we examine product packaging to find out if it is excessive, and if it is recyclable. Scales and calculators will be used to determine what percent of the product is packaging. Then we will consider how much of that packaging can be recycled in Cincinnati\'s green bins. Finally, we will discuss ways that each of us can reduce waste from product packaging. Science, math, civics, and problem solving skills will all be called upon in this new program for middle and high school students. (45 Minutes)
